Area Emergency Medical Services are dispatched through the MTU Department of Public Safety. Public Safety can be acted in case of any emergency and the appropriate agency will respond our situation. All Public Safety officers are certified in CRP First Aid. In an emergency, call Public Safety at 487-2216 or just dial 123 if you are on campus.
The Department of Public Safety offers escorts for any member of the campus community. We will escort you if you feel uncomfortable walking alone at night. Please call 487-2216 request an escort.
Public Safety is responsible for the locking of all University buildings. If you need after hours access to a building or room, or lock yourself out of your office, call 487-2216. If you have a specific event that you need to have a room or building open for, please call Scheduling at 487-2280 at least one day in advance.

The Department of Public Safety offers assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors with vehicle problems on campus. We can provide battery boosts and unlock your car door. Call 487-2216 if you need help.
Public Safety is a Designated Fingerprint Service. We can fingerprint for various reasons (i.e. Immigration and Naturalization, security clearances, bar applicants, etc.). Stop by Public Safety if you need to be fingerprinted.
Reports are made of all criminal incidents reported to Public Safety. If you are involved in an incident and need a copy of the report, call 487-2216.
Public Safety officers are trained to respond to and document traffic accidents. If you are involved in an accident or are witness to one, please call Public Safety at 487-2216 immediately.
If you find any parcel, briefcase, or other article which you believe is suspicious, call Public Safety at 487-2216 to report it.
This is what you will do:
- In person, visit the Public Safety Department and ask to complete a Weapons Registration Form.
- Be sure to have a valid photo ID and include the name, address, and M number of person registering; the manufacturer, caliber, model and serial numbers of the weapon.
- NOTE: When storing a weapon, the owner of the weapon is responsible to supply the lock for the weapons locker.
- Sign the form.
- Receive a copy of the weapon registration form from the Public Safety Department.
- A valid photo ID is required to check-in or remove a registered weapon from a designated weapons storage area.
